Three kinds of “hacking” in one story

  1. Hacking a story — The writer repeatedly refers to killing the engine. What exactly does that mean in the case of a Tesla?
  2. Hacking into electronics — Apparently these benign hackers were able to do so, but only after they engaged in number three:
  3. Hacking by physically tearing the machine apart — Yes, they had to dismantle the vehicle in order to achieve number two. How important is this hack, then? Obviously any machine can be hijacked by grease monkeys with crowbars. Shouldn’t we concentrate instead on nerds with laptops?
